Environmentalist Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev’s 'Rally for Rivers' movement on Wednesday praised Chhattisgarh’s plantation scheme 'Vriksha Sampada Yojana' which seeks to boost farmers' income and improve the environment.

'Rally for Rivers' is a movement launched by Sadhguru-led Isha Foundation to raise awareness about the dire condition of India's rivers and to garner support for changing government policies to protect them.

Taking to Twitter, the Sadhguru-led movement congratulated the Chhattisgarh government and farmers "for this wonderful initiative of large-scale commercial plantation on farmlands – a major shift in policies for increasing farmers' income".

Meanwhile, the Mukhyamantri Vriksha Sampada Yojana is the first of its kind campaign at the national level to promote commercial tree plantation on a large scale. The scheme was launched in March 2021.

This scheme aims to plant 15 crore saplings of earmarked species in 1.80 lakh acres of private land over five years.

Under the scheme, a guarantee has been given for the purchase of trees of identified species at the minimum support price.
