A day after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced its 19 candidates for 2017 Punjab Assembly polls, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Friday said his party would announce its candidates “soon in due time”.
He said the SAD team was working dedicatedly “to ensure proper representation to every strata of society in the ticket allotment as is the tradition in the party”. Sukhbir, interacting with the mediapersons on the occasion of first day of his Sangat darshan programme of village panchayats falling under the jurisdiction of Balachaur Assembly constituency, said neither AAP nor the Congress stood even fraction of a chance against the SAD-BJP combine.
“The SAD-BJP Government has undertaken vast number of pro-people and welfare oriented measures which cannot be matched by any other party,” he said.
Reacting to a query about AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal reportedly planning to approach the Supreme Court against Delhi High Court’s judgement saying that lieutenant Governor was Delhi’s administrative head and not bound by the advice of Council of Ministers, Sukhbir said every individual had the right to approach the Supreme Court concerning any issue. Reiterating Punjab Government’s stand on crucial SYl issue, he said it would not allow even a single drop of State’s river waters to flow out of the State. “Punjab doesn’t have even a single drop of water to spare and also that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had taken a clear stand in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha that river water interests of the state would be protected,” he said.
