Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday conveyed his Diwali wishes to the families of the martyred jawans and said Superintendents of Police will meet and honour them.
Baghel said in a press release that since the formation of Chhattisgarh, 517 jawans had sacrificed their lives for the nation and the state.
Their courageous acts are unforgettable, he said.
The government has in the last two years provided 47 members of martyrs’ families compensatory appointments, the Chief Minister said. They were given immediate financial assistance of around `21 crore.
"We are always concerned about the families of our jawans and have initiated every necessary action required to provide relief to them," he said.
On the recommendation of the state government, the Union government has hiked the ex-gratia amount from `3 lakh to `20 lakh, the press release said.
The problems faced by the families were addressed and resolved on priority, he said.
The application of transfer and allotment of quarters to the families were accepted and this will be done in future also, he said.
While conveying Diwali greetings, Baghel said: "You all are our family members and the government will stand firmly with you in all circumstances."
