RTE Act: Govt goes into overdrive

Published on:

The State Government has now gone into overdrive for ensuring children from poor families get admission in schools under the Right to Education Act 2009. The Government on Monday opened a three-day School Entrance Mela in Raipur to kick start the drive. It has instructed all the officers concerned to do their work with all seriousness for ensuring total implementation of the Act.

Secretary, School Education, Dinesh Shrivastava conducted sudden inspection of the Entrance Melas in three government schools and checked the arrangements there. The Secretary issued show cause notice to the District Education Officer (DEO) Raipur for alleged carelessness in providing admission to poor children in private schools. He also stopped two annual increments of three government school principals with immediate effect and issued show cause notices to them.

While inspecting the School Entrance melas in JN Pandey Government Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, JR Dani Government Girls Higher Secondary School and Sant Kanwarram Government Girls Higher Secondary School Katoratalab, the Secretary found the arrangements made there to be unsatisfactory. The school principals and nodal officers have not taken the important instructions of the State government seriously, the Secretary said while expressing his displeasure.

He stopped the annual increment of JN Pandey Government Multipurpose Higher Secondary School Principal MR Sawant, JR Dani Government Girls Higher Secondary School Principal Vijay Khandelwal and Sant Kanwarram Government Girls Higher Secondary School Katoratalab Principal N Parveen Khan. Directors Mayank Warwade and lS Marawi were present on the occasion.

Srivastava made it clear that under the Right to Education Act 2009, no difficulty should come in the way of providing admission to 25 per cent poor children in private schools. Officers should see through all the arrangements in this regard in their respective districts.

He advised the Director, Public Instructions, to take immediate action on finding any mismanagement in the Entrance melas, after fixing responsibility of the person concerned. Srivastava instructed to ensure presence of the officers of private schools in the Entrance mela.
