The district administration sized Rs 8.16 lakh from five different vehicles on Friday, informed Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Soumil Ranjan Choubey. Out of these vehicles one had mark of BJP on them, the SDM claimed.
The SDM talking with The Pioneer informed that a vehicle of sitting Congress MlA from Kasdol Rajkamal Singhania was also seized for carrying flags, posters, pamphlets and other election campaigning materials without proper information.
“We had intercepted five four-wheeler vehicles near the Khartora village of the district during checking ahead of the assembly polls. As per directives of the Election Commission, any person carrying cash more that Rs50,000 will have to inform bank and also present suitable reasons for carrying the cash. However when the person in vehicle were questioned about the destination and purpose of carrying the cash they failed to present any fitting reply. So we had to make the seizure of cash,” the SDM said and added that income tax authorities have been informed about the seizure.
He also said that a vehicle which had mark of BJP on it was carrying cash Rs3.42 lakh. Meanwhile sources further informed that the vehicles were coming from Raipur when they were intercepted.
The SDM further informed a vehicle of Kasdol MlA Rajkamal Singhaniya was also held for illegally carrying materials related to election campaigning. “No kind of prior information or permission was taken for transporting the material. So we have to seize the vehicle,” the SDM said.
