After prolonged demand from public representatives and residents of the State, some action has finally come against the controversy-struck Kivar Environ Private limited.

A fine of Rs 1 lakh has been imposed on Raipur Waste Management Private limited (RWMPl) on Friday for failing to ensure cleanliness in the city. The amount has been deducted from their monthly bill prepared by the Raipur Municipal Corporation. The action came after the RMC Commissioner Awanish Kumar Sharan inspected four wards under Zone 3, 4 and 8 on Friday. He expressed utter dissatisfaction over the cleanliness arrangements and said that there were not enough garbage disposal carts positioned in the wards.

He inspected residential colonies, roads, drainages and found them in unclean state. Raipur Waste Management Private limited (RWMPl) is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) formed by Bangalore based Kivar Urban Infra, to implement the Integrated City Sanitation and Municipal Solid Waste Management Project in Raipur.

Kivar Urban Infra is a unit of Kivar Environ Private limited which has been marred by controversies for several months now. The company has been blamed for being incompetent as the cleanliness service in all wards of the city suffered in absence of sanitation workers in the city. Sharan instructed the RWMPl officials to ensure that sanitation workers visit each ward every day and contribute towards cleanliness of public places, colonies, slum areas, roads and drainages.

“A fine of Rs lakh has been imposed on the company for negligence in service,” said KK Malve, officer in-charge of RWMPl.
