Chief Secretary Ajay Singh on Monday reviewed the status of work underway under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan in the State at the Mantralaya here.

The Chief Secretary was chairing a meeting of  State-level Committee on Scheduled Caste Sub Plan .

The Committee members in the meeting endorsed the proposal for budgeting around `17 crore for Scheduled Caste Development for the financial year 2018-19.

Notably, in 21 districts of the State, the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan now has 1,052 villages incorporated. Under the Pradhan Mantri Aadarsh Gram Yojana, 175 villages had been included from Scheduled Caste community dominated five districts in which Baloda-Bazar Bhatapara district has 40 villages, Janjgir-Champa (30), Mungeli (30) and Bilaspur (35).

Notably, Chhattisgarh had received more than `12.21 crore this year so far for building tribal students' hostels, the Central Government  informed in August this year.

During last three financial years and current year 2018-19, a total of `28355.97 lakh has been allocated to  Chhattisgarh Government for construction of 91 hostels for boys and girls.

The amount allocated to Government of Chhattisgarh under the scheme ‘Hostels for ST Girls and Boys’ during last three financial years and current year is to the tune of `1221.74 lakh for construction of 13 hostels. Out of which a total of `231.86 lakh has been utilized upto July 24, 2018 as informed by the State Government, it informed.

Besides the above mentioned scheme, construction of hostels is also supported under the MoTA’s Scheme of ‘SCA to TSS’ and under‘Grants under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India’ based on the proposal received from the State Government.

Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) was running a separate scheme “Hostels for ST Girls and Boys” under which funds were provided to State Governments for construction of hostels

However, as a part of rationalization of schemes of the Ministry, it has been decided to subsume the intervention of ‘construction of boys and girls hostels’ under the Schemes of ‘Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub-Scheme (SCA to TSS) from 2018-19 onwards, wherein assistance is provided as 100% grant in the form of an additive to State funds and efforts for tribal development.
