The static monitoring team, as part of extensive checking ahead of elections, on Saturday seized Rs 13.19 lakh from a Bolero vehicle at a check-post in Bemetara district.

Bemetara district electoral officer and collector Mahadev Kaware informed that during checking, a Bolero vehicle bearing registration number CG 07 AH 9631 in which three persons were travelling from Raipur to Kawardha was stopped. They were carrying cash of Rs 13.19 lakh in the     vehicle.

The persons were identified as Manoj Agrawal of Khairbanakala village, Santosh Patel of village Gangpur and Amarlal Patel of village Patelatola of Kabirdham district.

Since they could not provide any documentary proof to substantiate the reason for carrying the cash during interrogation, the seizure was made. The     election model code of conduct bars carrying more than Rs 50000 in cash. The income tax department was informed about the seizure. The seized cash has been deposited at a local police station.
