Construction of a road has finally begun in village Pudang in the northern end of Chhattisgarh -- 75 years after India's Independence. Until now, election officials had to take a helicopter to reach the village.
Pudang is situated 140 km from the Balrampur district headquarters and is home to 2,200 people.
An official communication on Sunday said the village remained deprived of road connectivity all these decades.
A Pahadi Korwa tribal, Amavas, said he was 40 but he has still not visited the district headquarters. He said people of his village had to travel via Jharkhand to visit places in Chhattisgarh.
People suffered during medical emergencies, he said.
Pudang village is surrounded by forests and valleys. The topography makes it difficult to build a road.
The place is also affected by Naxalite activities.
Balrampur Collector Vijay Dayaram K said a road was a must to provide proper education, health and other facilities.
Six kilometers of a road have been built to link Bandarchua with Bhutahi. Work is on to connect Bhutahi with Pudang.
