RMC to test water before daily supply

The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has at last woken up to the outbreak of seasonal diseases in the State capital, mostly believed to be on account of the contaminated water, and decided to test water before its supply to the people on a daily basis.

Municipal Commissioner Avnish Kumar Saran, after taking stock of the spread of seasonal diseases including water-borne disease jaundice, issued instruction to the civic body’s water department to test the water before being supplied to the people on a daily basis.

According to the instruction, it is mandatory on the part of the civic officials to clean the water tanks, pump house, supply lines and ensure the chlorine level in the water is maintained adequately to ensure that the water supplied is not contaminated.

The Commissioner, in a bid to ensure cent per cent compliance of his order directed the officials to prepare a day-to-day report of inspection of water tanks and tankers. He even wanted the officials to repair water tankers, in case of any damage to ensure that people get clean water.

The State is in the grip of jaundice with 17 deaths and other seasonal diseases forcing the State Government to take a relook into the water supply and hygiene arrangements. The decision to keep a daily test of the water being supplied and the water tank and supply taker is also part of this effort to put life back into normal after people accused the State Government of inaction.
