RMC to generate power from Sarona waste dump

Published on:

Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) will be setting up a power generation plant using municipal solid waste available at the Sarona Waste Dumping Site under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, officials informed.

RMC last year had also geared up for adopting and implementing Vellore model of Solid liquid Resource Management (SlRM) — a concept of safe disposal of solid and liquid wastes under the jurisdiction of civic body.

Earlier, the garbage generated from households and shops were being disposed off in nearby dumping yard from where RMC workers lifted the garbage and dumped them into designated Sarona-based trenching zone for garbage disposal.

In Raipur, due to climatic factors like high temperature, humidity and also due to high organic composition in the solid waste, the collection of the solid waste is done regularly as the waste gets decomposed rapidly, officials informed. Plastics, glass, metal and paper account for less than 15 percent of the total waste generated in Raipur.
