RMC locked over bad sanitation condition

Published on:

An unusual way of protest was witnessed on Tuesday at Raipur Municipal Corporation office as six Corporators of different parties locked the main gate of the office to protest of bad sanitation prevailing in different wards of RMC.

The office remained locked for more than an hour during the key working hours. The corporators alleged that Kiwar Company, which has been entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness, was not performing its work satisfactorily. They said roads and streets in the wards were stinking due to the nonchalance attitude of sanitary workers. They warned that they would stage gherao of  RMC authorities if the mismanagement in the sanitary department of RMC prevailed.

Corporators also expressed dissatisfaction over working of Solid Waste Management Scheme (SWMS) by Raipur Waste Management Company limited (RWMCl). They were of view that the RWMCl had made a mess of the sanitation drive in the city. They charged that RWMCl authorities were least concerned about the reputation of their company.

According to the Corporators the system of collecting garbage going door to door had proved total failure. If the sanitation drive is ignored longer, fear of water borne epidemics can not be ruled out, they said.  The protesters   comprised Satnaam Singh Panaag (Cong), Govind Mishra (BJP), Sameer Akhtar (Cong), Sahdeo Vyavahar, Mahadeo Nayak, Sunder Jogi, Dr. Purna Prakash Jha (Ind) and others.
