To mark former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s 30th death anniversary on May 21, the Chhattisgarh government will provide on Friday Rs 1,500 crores to 22 lakh farmers as the first lot of agricultural input subsidy under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana.

Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will attend the event via video conferencing, an official communication said on Thursday.

In the programme at the Chief Minister's house, Baghel and Cabinet ministers will pay floral tributes before an oil painting of Rajiv Gandhi and then transfer the first installment into the bank accounts of the farmers in the state.

He will also transfer Rs 7.17 crores as payment against the dung procurement between March 15 and May 15. MPs, MLAs, other public representatives, farmers and cattle rearers will take part in the programme, also via video conferencing.

The Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana was launched on May 21, 2020 to encourage crop productivity.

Under the scheme, the Chhattisgarh government transferred Rs 5,628 crores to about 19 lakh farmers (registered in Kharif season 2019-20) in four installments as agricultural input subsidy.

On May 19, the Chhattisgarh government took several important decisions in the interests of the farmers.

On May 21, Baghel will transfer Rs 7.17 crores directly to the accounts of villages and cattle rearers as payment for dung procured from March 15 to May 15 under the multi-pronged Godhan Nyay Yojana.

Under Godhan Nyaya Yojana, launched in July 2020, a total of Rs 88.15 crores have been paid so far to cattlemen and villagers.

Another Rs 3.6 crores will be transferred to gauthan samitis and women self-help groups.
