Resolve to be self-reliant: Borah to differently-abled

Divisional Commissioner Sonmoni Borah visited the Training Centre set up for the physically challenged and encouraged them.

Talking to the physically challenged persons, Borah asked them not to take the training for the sake of obtaining a certificate.

He said, “People are over confident that someone will come and help the physically challenged. This concept should be changed. They themselves can bring changes in their lives. You only can understand your capability to work. You should resolve to become self-reliant.”

Taking personal interest to make the physically challenged self-reliant, the Divisional Commissioner had launched ‘Swayam’ programme in all the five districts of Bilaspur division. Under the programme, free computer training has been imparted to the physically challenged persons in village Jarhagaon in Mungeli district.

The Divisional Commissioner told the officers concerned that if the number of physically challenged is comparatively more in any village, they should ensure training given to them in their village itself.

He said that training in different trades should be given to the physically challenged as per their liking and disability permits so that they don’t face any problem in setting up their own business.

Borah suggested that these people should be registered with the labour Department.

The Commissioner informed the persons about the ‘MUDRA bank’, where loan facility is available at three levels — ‘Shishu’ loan is of Rs50,000, ‘Kishore’ loan from Rs50,000 to Rs5 lakh and ‘Tarun’ loan from Rs5 lakh to Rs10 lakh.

Collector Dr Sanjay Alang in his address lauded the Divisional Commissioner and said that Borah has seen the rehabilitation of the physically challenged in a new vision and started the ‘Swayam’ programme. It is his farsightedness that today the physically challenged persons are being trained in different trades.

He said that in Mungeli district training was in  progress in different places in 7 clusters. At the outset Deputy Director Panchayat and Social Welfare informed in detail about the training programmes being conducted for the physically challenged. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by District Panchayat CEO Fariha Alam Siddiqui. Sarpanch, Panch, renowned personalities and officers from various departments were present on the occasion.
