Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal gave the decision on a notice given by Congress members to move a no-confidence motion against the Speaker for allegedly grabbing a Government land.
The Speaker rejected the demand for the resolution by giving reference of vacation and resignation of, and removal from, the offices of Speaker and Deputy Speaker in the Clause C of Article 179 of the Constitution. According to Clause C the resolution for removal should be passed in majority by the then members of the Assembly. It further states that no resolution for the purpose of clause (c) shall be moved unless at least fourteen days notice has been given of the intention to move the resolution.
He said that the notice in this regard was given on July 21 and hence it did not meet the 14-day advance notice period criteria and will not be considered.ClP leader TS Singhdeo said that Congress members honour his decision.
