Reservation issue rocks Assly again on second day

Published on:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members on Tuesday raised the issue of religious conversion and sought the Quantifiable Data Commission report in the Chhattisgarh Assembly, leading to disruptions and its adjournment for the day.

During Zero Hour in the assembly, Brijmohan Agrawal raised a point of order. Speaker Dr Charan Das Mahant asked him to quote the law from the              legislative proceedings.

Congress MLAs rose and started to attack the BJP for the delay in the signing of the reservation amendment bills by the Governor.

The Speaker said he would hear both sides as a point of order has been raised. But the Congress MLAs continued to disrupt the proceedings.

Agrawal said that during Question Hour, the ruling party MLAs had been              causing disruptions when opposition members were seeking information through supplementary questions.

Leader of Opposition Narayan Chandel backed him and said the Chhattisgarh Assembly had set a bad example.

As the disruptions              continued, the Chair adjourned the House for 10 minutes. On resumption, BJP                  members raising the issue of conversion entered the well of the House leading to their suspension. The House was adjourned for another five minutes. The Chairman later withdrew the suspension of BJP MLAs and adjourned the House for the day as the commotion               continued.
