Chhattisgarh Assembly Leader of Opposition Narayan Chandel on Saturday said the two reservation bills passed by the House may face a tough ride as constitutional processes have been bypassed by the government.
Chandel said the government was forced to pass the bill in a special session without any preparations due to pressure built by the BJP and tribal community members for the last two months. But as due constitutional procedures had not been followed, the bills will face tough challenges. Even the Quantifiable Data Commission report was not tabled in the House, he said.
Even some people with backing from the Congress or the government may challenge the provisions in the court, he added. Though the BJP boycotted the proceedings of the resolution to place the two bills in 9th Schedule, Chandel said it is a totally unconstitutional process as the bill has not received the Governor’s consent. He added that now the Congress will put the ball in the Central government's court stating that the Modi government is not placing it in 9th Schedule.
