Rescuers continued their hectic efforts on Saturday evening to rescue a 11-year-old boy who fell into an abandoned borewell in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir Champa district a day        earlier.

The boy’s activities are being monitored through a camera pushed into the bore well, said officials, adding that they were in regular touch with the distraught family.

Rahul slipped and fell into the borewell in Pihrid Malkharoda village.

The digging is still underway with 50 feet being excavated so far. A tunnel will be made to reach Rahul after 60 feet of digging, an official communication said.

This is said to be the biggest rescue operation in the state to save a life -- and also the first incident of its kind in Chhattisgarh.

The administration has deputed four IAS officers, two IPS officers, one Additional Superintendent of Police, two Deputy Collectors, five Tehsildars, four Deputy Superintendents of Police and eight Inspectors. All are working round the clock.

Apart from its rescue teams from Raigarh, Durg and Bilaspur, 120 police   personnel have been pressed into service. Police have been deployed to keep away    curious onlookers from   hindering the rescue         operation.

A total of 32 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 15 SDRF and army personnel have also been deployed.

The services of several machines including JCBs, fire brigades, stone breakers and tractors are being used in the operation.
