Union minister of state for tribal affairs Renuka Singh, attacking the Congress over its stand on ‘paddy procurement’, said it should have pondered over the budget and its limitations before making major announcements ahead of elections.
She was interacting with media on visit to Ambikapur to participate in a local event on Wednesday.
She said even during the period of Raman Singh government, the Centre had the policy of not to procure the rice from states giving bonus. The then BJP government led by Raman Singh had also stopped giving the bonus to the farmers, but continued to procure the paddy at minimum support price.
The BJP leader said it is the Congress which has lured the farmers with promise of loan waiver and to give MSP of Rs 2500 per quintal, which has led to formation of government in the state. The Prime Minister will not succumbed to any pressure, she emphasised.
On non-participation of BJP MPs in meeting called by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, she said the MPs were given short notice and their programmes were already fixed. She added that Central government is concerned over the plight of farmers but would stand by the Prime Minister on the issue. “I am also have deep concern for the farmers,” she added.
