The Ravishankar University is not in a position to implement the semester system from the next academic session. The system would be implemented in the autonomous colleges only. As the meeting of the vice-chancellors was not held, further decisions could not be taken on the students’ union election also, informed an official here on Saturday.

Recently a meeting of the university coordination committee was held under the chairmanship of the Governor. At the meeting, a decision was taken to implement semester system in Ravishankar University from next academic session. After the meeting, the Ravishankar University administration had started preparation for it, but could not be completed. As such, now it is difficult to implement semester system at the graduate level.

It was said that only a few months are left for starting the new academic session of Ravishankar University. As such, it needs massive preparations for the implementation of the semester system. Much time could be consumed in deciding the semester-wise fee, preparations of question papers and examinations, evaluation of answer books and for various works. Along with teachers, it needs other staff also. It is difficult to complete all these in two-three months.

It was said that Ravishankar University is lagging behind in implementing this system at the graduate level, but preparations have been started to implement it in some autonomous colleges. From the next academic session 2014-15, semester system would be implemented at the graduate level in these colleges. With the implementation of this system, on the one hand, the students will be benefited, on the other, they may suffer additional burden.

In the coordination committee meeting, it was decided to hold the students’ union election from the next session. It was also decided that the date and procedure would be decided by holding meeting of vice-chancellors, but the meeting could not be held so far. The university has no information that when the meeting would be held.

Ravishankar University registrar KK Chandrakar says that semester system has been implemented at post-graduate level in the university. Preparations have been started to implement the system at the graduate level also, but could not be completed. As such, it will be considered to implement the system from next year. He said that now the semester system could be implemented in autonomous colleges, where preparations are going on. However, he did not get any guidelines on the election of students’ unions, neither has any information about the meeting of vice chancellors.
