Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) on Saturday held the BJP-led State Government responsible for the death of an old-age person in alleged Ration-Card Scam.
CGPCC president Bhupesh Baghel and ClP leader TS Singhdeo, in a joint Press release, said that a 70-year-old resident of Dadhi village of Bemetara, Durga Sahu had visited a public grievance redressal camp in Umaria village to register complaint against cancellation of his ration-card.
“Sahu, who was depressed due to not receiving the benefits of Ration-card facility, died after receiving heart-attack during the camp” said the senior Congress leaders.
Both the leaders alleged that the BJP Government distributed ration-cards to get political mileage during the state assembly polls last year and cancelled the same after winning the election.
Baghel and Singhdeo added that Sahu, whose ration-card was also cancelled after the election, suffered pain in his heart after the local MlA announced during the camp that no single family will get ration-card. Sahu died immediately on the spot.
“The government officials are now trying to hush up the matter with the help of money” they claimed.
Both the leaders said that in a separate incident, a 70-year-old visually impaired resident of Chikhalputi village of Kondagaon district had committed suicide about three-four days ago.
“The victim, Piladas lahare’s ration card was cancelled about three months ago. The old-age person, who was availing the benefits of ration-card from last about ten years, run pillar to post to restart the service but to no avail” said senior Congress leaders adding that due to helplessness, the poor villager resorted to the extreme step.
“The Chief Minister, Raman Singh should take moral responsibility of both the incidents” they demanded.
Both the leaders also demanded probe in such incidents reported across the State.
