A 25-year old youth got a new lease of life after both his nasal passages, which were totally closed, were opened for breathing after plastic surgery conducted at Dau Kalyan Singh (DKS) Super-Specialty Hospital and Research Centre, Raipur.

A resident of a village near Raipur, Jitendra (name changed) received burn injuries at his residence when he was 21-year old. His hands and face were affected. The upper lips swelled to close nostrils due to which he had to breathe only through his mouth. He underwent an operation in a private hospital. But after 15 days his condition relapsed.

He approached the DKS hospital in January 2019 and HOD Dr Dakesh Shah finally advised him to undergo surgery. After surgery he was advised some exercises and his treatment was done free of cost under Ayushman scheme.

Jitendra said, he had lost all hope and in the last four years, he had even forgotten that he had a nose. Now, he is feeling better.

Doctors pointed out that breathing through mouth increases possibility of infection and also increases the risk of food entering wind-pipe leading to choking. Even there is possibility of     developing deafness.
