Rampant use of chemical fertilisers hits soil fertility

Published on:

Rampant use of chemical fertilisers by farmers in Bastar region has raised concern in the fraternity. Results of the soil test of the region showed that though the yields have swelled up enough and farming looks attractively profitable, the prolonged use of chemical fertilisers has potentially spoiled the fertility of the soil.

Scientist from the local agriculture college duly cautioned the farmers about the long term bad effects of excessive use of chemical fertilisers, which

ultimately lead to loss of production. They have suggested for the periodical soil test of the field and balanced use of chemical fertilisers. Soil test shows the deficiency of the minerals and that could be duly supplemented by infusing extra minerals required.

The unrestrained use of chemical fertilisers has become a common practice in this region. Periodical cautioning to farmers asking them to stay away from excessive use of the fertiliser has had very little effects on them.
