Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Monday hit out at Congress State unit chief Charandas Mahant for his statement that his party would raise the reservation percentage quota for the Scheduled Caste in Chhattisgarh if Congress was voted to power in coming up assembly polls.
“Rather than making sweeping statements about reservation status in Chhattisgarh, Mahant should first ensure that Congress-led UPA Government at the
Centre should raise reservation quota of the Scheduled Caste to 16 percent,’’ Singh said while reacting to questions of media persons here.
Mahant had on Sunday remarked at the convention of the powerful Satnami Community which belongs to Scheduled Caste, that Congress would raise the SC reservation quota up to 16 percent if the party was voted to power in assembly polls scheduled in the State by Nov-Dec. Mahant had also lambasted the BJP regime in Chhattisgarh at the convention for its reservation policy towards Scheduled Caste.
In response to another query, Raman Singh who is ruling the mineral-rich State since Dec 2003, stated that public personalities should take a lesson from a recent ruling of the Supreme Court regarding Right to Reject in polls.
