Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh greeted Madhya Pradesh resident Kailash Satyarthi for winning Nobel Peace Prize on Friday. Singh lauded Satyarthi for working tirelessly for the rights of children and congratulated him for bagging Nobel Peace Prize.
“The child rights activist Satyarthi has made all the countrymen proud by winning the Nobel Peace Prize,’’ Singh said in a statement. Singh also greeted Pakistani teenager Malala Yousafzai for winning the Nobel Peace Prize along with Satyarthi.
He congratulated Malala for the honour she got at such a young age. Singh stated, “the entire world is elated as she (Yousafzai) stood for the education of girls. People who are fighting against terrorism will get encouragement with her achievement,’’
Satyarthi, who gave up a career as an electrical engineer in 1980 to campaign against child labour, has headed various forms of peaceful protests and demonstrations, focusing on the exploitation of children for financial gain.
While Yousafzai was attacked in 2012 on a school bus in the Swat Valley in northwest Pakistan by masked gunmen as a punishment for a blog that she started writing as an 11-year-old to campaign against the Taliban’s efforts to deny women an education.
The prize, worth about $1.1 million, will be presented in Oslo on December 10, the anniversary of the death of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel, who founded the award.
