Women and youths took out a massive rally in Maoist insurgency-hit Bijapur on International Women’s Day on Saturday.
The rally began at Naya bus stand and concluded at community hall where a meeting was held on voter awareness. Attending the function as the chief guest, district collector Mohammad Qaiser Abdul Haque congratulated the women on the occasion of Women’s day and highlighted on the role of women in development of society.
Highlighting the status of the women across the globe, he said the women no longer lagged behind in any sector and have already working shoulder to shoulder with men in field of education, business and other key sectors.
“It is in that context, March 8 is being observed as International women’s day.” The collector said the presence of women is being felt in all fields starting from science, health, police to army.
“Women have become pilot. They are proving their talent by working in factories. They are running the trains,’’ the Collector stated.
The women, youths and Government employees who participated in the rally and meeting took pledge that they will cast their vote and exercise their franchise.
He also appealed the participants to create awareness among the people so that more and more people exercise their franchise. In a democratic country, every citizen has right to vote and they must exercise their right because each vote plays an important role in deciding the fate of a candidate, he said.
By casting the vote, we select the Prime Minister. He appealed to all the women that they should ensure that eligible members of their family participate in the electoral process and cast their respective votes.
District panchayat Chief executive officer Samir Bishnoi in his address said the women’s day is being celebrated across the globe. It has already completed 110 years. In Europe women fought for their rights and policy makers started thinking on them. It was because of that struggle, lot of work related to women welfare took place and women were provided same work like men and they were appointed at higher places, said Samir.
