The admission into different courses in two new medical colleges — one in Rajnandgaon and another in Ambikapur may become a reality with authorities seeking nod to select students during the second round of counselling.

The State Medical Education Directorate has complied with the statuary requirements and written to the Central Government for necessary approvals, it was learnt. Sources said these two colleges may be included in the second phase of counselling for admitting students.

Every efforts is being made to open the medical college in Rajnandgaon and Ambikapur from this academic session, officials said. Doctors and other posts in the medical colleges have already been completed.

Sources said a team of Medical Council of India (MCI) had visited both the colleges and had pointed out some shortcomings.

The team had submitted its report to the MCI’s Executive Committee. The State Government had applied for 100 seats in each of the colleges. The deans of both the colleges had reportedly gone to New Delhi with all necessary information few days ago. They had places all the information before the Committee. The State Medical Education Directorate officials said the instead of 100 seats each, the MCI may allot 50 seats each.

The first phase of counselling for admission into other medical colleges have already been started but these two new colleges have not been included in it. Probably the new colleges would be included in the second phase of counselling because it had earlier happened in case of Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Bilaspur last year, he said.
