First time Congress MlA Amit Jogi, son of veteran Congress leader Ajit Jogi, on Thursday demanded from the ruling BJP Government that the legal drinking age of the youth consuming liquor be raised from existing norm of 21 years to 25 years in State.
“In Punjab, Haryana and Delhi, the legal drinking age is 25 years. I recommend that same be made applicable in Chhattisgarh,” he said, while addressing media persons at the Chhattisgarh State Assembly premises here.
The young legislator who launched his political career by winning from Marwahi seat by record votes in recently held assembly polls, said that the Chhattisgarh’s Cabinet Ministers must give up the Red beacon lights on their vehicles and the culture of pilot vehicles to set an example of simplicity in true spirit of social service.
Jogi stated said that the Chief Minister Raman Singh had stated in the House that the ruling Government received 1,360 MW power capacity as a legacy in 2003 but he forgot to mention that there was 3,420 MW of approved capacity from the Centre when the ruling party came to power in Chhattisgarh.
``It would have taken merely 48 months to achieve the capacity by commissioning new units but only 30 per cent of the units were started during the past one decade’’, the young legislator remarked.
