Raipur to have a drama school

Aspiring theatre artistes in the state will no longer need to migrate several miles away from their home state looking for mentoring as a Chhattisgarh School of Drama will soon open in the state capital for stage enthusiasts.

The drama school will be a project of the Chhattisgarh Rangmandal and it will offer one-year diploma course in theatrics, said Yogesh Agrawal, president of the Chhattisgarh Rangmandal, at a press conference on Wednesday.

"Setting up the drama school is an attempt to revive and strengthen the artistic vein of the state which has been neglected for more than a decade now. There is enough quality talent in the state which is waiting to be nurtured," Agrawal said.

Drama experts from all over the country will mentor students and senior theatre artist Sanjay Maithil will also play active role in the functioning of the school. Maithil has also been appointed as the director of Chhattisgarh Rangmandal, said Agrawal, adding that the Rangmandal will also organise Chhattisgarh Rang Mahotsav on the lines of Bharat Rang Mahotsav.

Apart from this, Rangmandal is also organising a 45-day acting workshop for children and adults. Classes will be held from April 1 in two batches for children between 12 and 18 years of age and adults till 35 years of age at Adeshwar Complex in Ramsagarpara.
