The microbiology department of the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College (JLNMC) in Raipur has come up with guidelines to operate all virology laboratories in Chhattisgarh. These will be shared with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Senior Scientist Dr. Neha Singh and Head of Department of Microbiology, Professor Dr. Nikita Sherwani, handed over the operational guidelines to Health and Family Welfare Minister T.S. Singh Deo on Monday, an official communication said.
Congratulating the team for the achievement, Singh Deo said it was a matter of pride for the medical college.
Dr. Neha Singh said: “Virology is a branch of science which deals with viruses and organisms. The usefulness of virology labs was understood during the corona epidemic. Through these labs in the state, Covid-19 was being investigated.
"The ICMR had underlined the need for guidelines for the operation of the lab. The guidelines will also be shared with ICMR, Delhi."
Dr Kamlesh Jain, the State Nodal Officer for Virology Lab Development, said: “Due to lack of guidelines during Covid-19 testing, many people working in the lab were infected. This would help to reduce the viral infection among the staff.”
