The Raipur Railway Division under the South East Central Railway (SECR) zone on Friday night established a record for running long-haul trains to Ambodala (Odisha) and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) by merging two goods trains.

According to an official statement, two goods trains were joined together to make it a long-haul train with stops at two places: Ambodala and Visakhapatnam.

The statement said that such trains reduce the operating time, labour, space for railway track movement, and uses only one crew set (loco pilot and assistant pilot including guard).

Earlier, Raipur Railway division had been running the ‘Anaconda long haul’ in which rakes of three goods trains are joined.

The Railways are using the goods trains to supply essential items.

On Friday night, the Raipur Railway Division ran 40 trains at Lakholi inter-change point. A total of 20  trains each from Raipur to Sambalpur Railway Division and back operated through the Lakholi inter-change point, a single line infrastructure.
