Raipur’s seven black spots to be removed

Published on:

The Raipur District Road Safety Committee on Monday decided to remove the seven ‘black spots’ (accident-prone spots) in Raipur district and 14 spots in the city by installing automatic signals, widening roads and removing electricity poles.

The seven black spots include Tatiband Chowk on National Highway 53, Pintu Dhaba to Serikhedi Overbridge Cutting, Mandir Hasaud Bus Stand Chowk and Mahatma Gandhi Setu Mahanadi Para Village, Metal Park Turn on National Highway 30 to Dhaneli Nala, Siltara Turn to Central Bank of India up to Siltra and Newspaper Printing Press to Singhania Chowk to Urla.

Raipur MP Sunil Soni chaired the meeting along with District Collector Dr Sarveshwar Bhurre and Senior Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal to discuss different aspects such as how to minimize accidents in these spots, an official communication said.

As per the decisions taken, the work of Tatibandh square fly-over will be expedited and the pits on the roads will be levelled. The open dividers near the spots will be closed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

Traffic signals will be installed at Mandir Hasaud bus stand square and temporary stoppers will be used to control the traffic. Apart from it, speed related traffic sign boards will come up to alert drivers.

Soni suggested installing a signal to control traffic at Mathpurena as students from nearby schools cross the roads there.

The panel asked the Raipur Municipal Corporation to conduct an extensive survey and prepare an estimate to install smart-electric powered automatic signals at 14 spots within Raipur city limits.

The study will focus on shutting down signals at a few points or shifting them to other spots.
