Concerned with scaling up crime against women in railways, South East Central Railway (SECR) has started a news toll-free help line number especially for women passengers. The service will be a 24×7 with its control room in Bilaspur, said railway sources.
According to official information received from railway department in case of any danger the women passenger could call on toll free number 18002332534. The regional control centre of this toll free service has been set up at Bilaspur which will be connected with all the GRP and RPF centres, district police stations under the Bilaspur zone. The officers and security personnel of Railway Protection Force (RPF) would be present round the clock in the control room would immediately respond in case of any emergency call received.
In case of emergency call from women passenger the control room would alert the concerned railway station RPF and local police station and tracing the mobile number of the caller the police force would reach at the spot to avail help for the female passengers in peril, informed Railway department officials at Raipur.
The idea behind this service is to make the railway journey safer for women, official added. In addition to the toll free number another help line number 9752490777 is already in use and any passenger could call on this number in case of emergency.
Notably a woman on Sunday had registered a
complaint with GRP at Khariyar railway station, Raigarh that she was relived of ornaments worth `3 lakh at Khadagpur railway station. She alleged that she had approached the police at Rourkela and Tata stations, but none of them paid heed to her grievances.
