Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha State president Shobha Soni on Friday in a statement termed Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s mentioning of his mother’s illness in a poll related public meeting in Madhya Pradesh on October 17 as laughable while saying that it was an attempt to gather sympathy and a ‘political gimmick’.
“It’s good that Rahul Gandhi has concern for his mother but he sometimes should also worry about Mother India and its poor people,” she stated. Soni said that after raising the slogan of ‘Garibi Hatao’ ( Remove Poverty), the Congress Vice President has a new slogan ‘Ma Beemar Hai’ (Mother is ill).
She said that some of the Congress workers were expelled from the party in Uttar Pradesh for putting up banners mentioning Congress party President Sonia Gandhi as ill and the reigns of the party must be handed over to Priyanka Gandhi while on the other hand Rahul Gandhi mentioned about his mother taking ill in his bid to gather sympathy in Madhya Pradesh.
Soni said that nothing is hidden from the people regarding the country’s current situation and the Congress-led UPA has failed in all fronts. She said that by setting up a record in financial scandals, the Congress-led UPA has completely destroyed the monetary system of the country. The Congress party had been going to the people with programmes luring the public in view of the lok Sabha polls which the people had been clearly understanding as a ‘poll gimmick’, Soni said.
The Congress statement on providing food security to 70 per cent of the population through the Food Security Bill is shameful as it is proving that the rest of the population will have to go hungry because of its poor governance, she said. The Congress has accepted the fact through the Food Security Bill that its projects are on paper and catchy
slogans have not benefitted the people and they still remain poor and hungry, Soni said.
