Rahul Gandhi, vice president of All India Congress Committee, is likely to visit Chhattisgarh on the occasion of Guru Ghasidas Jayanti being celebrated annually on December 18, State Congress Chief Bhupesh Baghel informed here on Saturday.

While addressing a press conference at party’s state headquarters Congress bhawan here, Bhupesh Baghel and leader of Congress legislature Party (ClP) TS Singhdeo informed that few days back they had met Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi and had requested him to visit Chhattisgarh between December 18 and 31.

Rahul Gandhi was briefed about the programmes being chalked out by Chhattisgarh Congress in Bhanupratappur over Forest Rights. Baghel and Singhdeo had also informed Rahul Gandhi about the Mela held in Amar Tapu in Mungeli during Guru Ghasidas Jayanti celebrated every year on December 18, they said.

Meanwhile, Singhdeo told reporters that a detailed discussion of problems being faced by common people after demonetization was also held with Rahul Gandhi.

“So far paddy worth ` 2,000 crore has been procured from farmers on support price, however, payment of just ` 50 crore has been only released,” Singhdeo said, while adding that at different places complaints of serious lapses in paddy procurement has also come to light.

The Congress leaders informed that complaints about the use of sub-standard quality jute sacks, weighing errors and offering lower rates to fine quality paddy after categorizing them as thick quality paddy has also been received.

They further charged that only about seven percent people living in Chhattisgarh have debit cards so under these circumstances cashless transaction is not an easy thing.

To a query about fielding of candidates in the upcoming civic body polls, Baghel informed that party has started the poll preparations, however, names of the candidate will be finalized after discussions at the block, district and state-level party officials.
