Race for State's DGP post wide open

The race for the job of the top cop in Chhattisgarh is wide open as three aspirants who are posted in Madhya Pradesh, have intensified lobbying to become the next Director General of Police (DGP) of the State which is infested by left wing extremism since late 1980s.

The Chhattisgarh Government has to appoint the new DGP in a week period as the incumbent DGP, Ramniwas, is set to retire on January 31. Top official sources say that the 1983 batch IPS officer Girdhari Nayak (in pic) who is presently, the Director General (Jail), is the lone contender for the job of the top cop.

But the BJP Government is in serious talk with at least three outsiders in search of a perfect DGP personality. The sources stated that all the three outsiders are bold IPS officers who have well topographical knowledge of the Maoist heartland Bastar as well they can toe Government line blindly on key law and order related issues.

“The race for the DGP post is wide open and the Government is in talk with certain senior IPS officers of Madhya Pradesh who are keen to take up the assignment,” the source who is the integral part of the Raman Singh Government told The Pioneer, adding, “Nayak is also very much in the race, but he is

failing to push his candidature strongly.” Sources in the State Government as well in the BJP said that a strong lobby at the Chhattisgarh police headquarters led by very senior IPS officer has activated his all skills to block Nayak becoming the next DGP.
