PWD Minister Rajesh Munat, at a meeting of senior officers held on Monday reviewed the ongoing works in his department. The Minister directed the officers to complete the construction works run under various schemes within the prescribed time limit with the right quality.
He said that no compromise would be made with the quality of construction work and if there any, after fixing responsibility, action would be taken against the guilty officers. Principal Secretary RP Mandal, Engineer-in-Chief DK Pradhan and other senior officers were present at the meeting. Munat reviewed the progress of construction of roads, bridges, culverts and buildings at various divisions.
Expressing concern over the condition of national highways in the State, the Minister said that through correspondence, the National Highway Authority should be urged for immediate maintenance and upgradation of the roads. If the NHA expresses inability in it, efforts should be made to take over of the roads by the State government, so that they could be maintained with the budget of the State government. Financial assistance could be sought from the Asian Development Bank for it, he added.
The Minister issued instructions to construct bypass roads in the town situated by the sides of the national highways. He said that work plan should be prepared on a priority basis for the reconstruction or upgradation of the national highways in the state. Munat asked to form a technical specialists’ team to decide the quality of construction of roads, bridges and houses.
He directed to maintain transparency in the departmental works, online tenders should be issued for the work costing more than Rs 20 lakh. He also instructed to make online the information of the progress on construction works. Munat said that arrangements should be made for toll-free telephone number and online complaint system for the complaints of construction works. He asked the senior officers of the department to conduct regular monitoring of construction works.
