Punit refuses to give voice samples, SIT to approach HC

Published on:

Dr Punit Gupta, son-in-law of former chief minister Raman Singh, on Thursday refused to give voice sample to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Antagarh tapes case.

Earlier, two other accused in the case too refused to gave their voice samples to the SIT in connection with the probe. They are Manturam Pawar, the erstwhile candidate of the Antagarh bye- polls who allegedly withdrew nominations after taking bribe and Amit Jogi, state president of the Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC-J).

Though Punit appeared before the investigation team at its office situated in Ganj Police Station premises, he refused to give his voice sample. Punit was accompanied by his father and advocate.

Later talking to media persons, Punit’s advocate said since they had challenged the SIT investigation into the case in the high court, there was no question of giving the voice sample to it.

Al the accused in the case questioned the locus standi of the SIT. They were of the view that as the case was under the purview of the high court, the investigation by the SIT was not bona fide.

On the other hand, the SIT is now planning to move the high court to get its directives so that the voice sample of the accused could be collected for further investigation.
