Chhattisgarh’s Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ajay Chandrakar stated, “Clean India Mission is a movement and active public participation is a vital ingredient for success of any movement. The practice of open defecation can be weeded out by ensuring public participation and awareness.”

He was addressing personalities from the fields of art, culture, social service and industry, who were nominated as Navratna (nine gems) to ensure their significant contribution in the mega cleanliness campaign during a workshop in the city on Thursday.

On the occasion, nominated Navratnas from across the State were felicitated by Chandrakar.

Notably, for success of Clean India Mission, Navratnas at different levels, including State, District, Janpad and Village Panchayat levels have been nominated in Chhattisgarh.

The State government is dedicatedly working to create awareness among the people  about cleanliness but it won’t be possible for any government to frame a law for forcing people to look after their personal hygiene, Chandrakar said.

The Minister further pointed out that Chhattisgarh is the only State in India where toilet in house of aspiring candidate is compulsory for contesting village panchayat polls.

The workshop was attended by Navratnas including Padma Shree Pandwani singer Teejan Bai, Padma Shree Phoolbasan Yadav, Padma Shree Dr A T K Dabke and others.
