Hundreds of people on Monday staged a protest in front of the Collector office complaining that they are not getting ration against their ration cards. More than 500 people could not get ration under the Public Distribution System in the month of March.
The distribution of ration has been stopped against old ration cards. The protestors, mostly who were residents of Mowa ward, said that neither are they getting ration on their old cards nor are new ration cards being issued to them. More than 650 labourers have not received ration cards even after nine months.
When contacted, the Food Controller Dayamani Minj said that new cards are being issued to people who have submitted their applications. He urged that people who have not submitted their application for a new ration card must do so immediately.
The protestors assembled in front of the Collectorate and raised slogans against the Collector and the move to discontinue distributing ration against old ration cards. The protestors were led by MlA Satyanarayan Sharma and ward Corporator Anwar Hussain.
The residents of Mowa complained that despite submitting their applications, they are not getting their new ration cards. “We had come to protest and apprise about the situation to the Collector. But because of his absence, we met the Food Controller,” said MlA Sharma. They also met Zone II Commissioner Raj Kumar Dongre who promised the protestors of prompt relief.
