Prolonged winter expected this time: IGAU

Winter has set in across Chhattisgarh but there are probably least chances of witnessing a significant dip in mercury levels in the days to come.

The Department of Agrometerology at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University (IGAU) has predicted a prolonged winter this season.

“We usually predict the onset of winter after the Kharif season is over. Similar prediction was done this year.

However, in last four years, there has been a change in the duration of peak winter season in Chhattisgarh.

The sowing of red soil crops which is done around peak winter is prolonged.

It has some connection with the low temperature,” said Dr GK Das, the Head of the Agrometerology Department on Monday.

Notably, in early October this year, a Data Officer of Regional Meteorological Centre had informed about the arrival of winter in some parts of the State.
