'Probe Gujarat snoop incident by SC judge'

State Congress president Dr Charandas Mahant, on the meeting of a delegation of woman workers, NGOs, human rights workers and members of Civil Society under the leadership of Shabana Azmi with the President, said that since November 15, anger, grief and worry have been expressed across the country over the snoop incident in Gujarat and the silence of the Gujarat government over it.

In a party press statement issued here, Mahant said that, even Narendra Modi and Amit Shah did not mention a word on the issue so far. This silence is being deemed that whatever had come before the country was true. With that concern, the women’s organization had called on the President, he said.

He said that the President’s interference was must in the issue, as, if the tradition continues in the country, it would not be constitutional, as nobody is secure in Gujarat. It was the case of only one young architect that has come to the fore. Several officers had given statements and told that how the government and the administration were being misused in Gujarat to suppress the voice of political opponents, human rights activists and Civil Society members. Now the Gujarat issue has taken a grave shape, he said.

Mahant said that the charge leveled on the so-called prime ministerial candidate of the BJP and the fact that has come to the fore is a grave one. On such serious charges also, the BJP wanted to save Modi by hiding its head, like ostrich.

He said that a judicial inquiry should be initiated on the activities of Modi, Amit Shah and all the officers involved in the issue. Whoever will found guilty should be given the strictest punishment. The BJP was continuously trying to cover up the truth in this issue, but probe should be initiated into the fact that has been unraveled before the people.

Mahant demanded that these allegations on Modi should be probed by a Supreme Court judge so that truth  should come before the country. It is objectionable that the BJP is engaged in suppressing the issue, but the women in the country would keep quiet, he added.
