Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday said that pro-farmer policies and a friendly government had helped to further strengthen the economic condition of the farmers.
He tweeted that the farmers were happy as they are getting higher prices for Rabi (summer) paddy.
The government procures paddy produced by farmers during Kharif season at a minimum support price. The summer paddy is sold by farmers through Mandis where traders procure the paddy.
Last year, the paddy was sold at a range of Rs 1,600-1,650 per quintal, an official communication issued by the Chhattisgarh State Agriculture Marketing (Mandi) Board in Raipur said.
The government on July 12 announced the waiver of ‘Mandi Fees’ and Farmers 'Welfare Fees’ to promote procurement in Mandis.
In the current fiscal year, the paddy was procured from farmers at Rs 1,800-1,950 a quintal. From July 22 to August 15, the farmers had sold 18,53,000 quintals of paddy.
Compared to last year, this year farmers earned a profit of around Rs 300 per quintal from the sale. A total of 92,650 farmers benefited from the sale.
