A private sector Fish Research Centre, called the Aqua Genetic Centre, has been established in Rampur village in Baloda Bazar-Bhatapara district of Chhattisgarh. Thai scientists are providing technical   assistance.

On Wednesday, Dr Suvarna C, Chief Executive, National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), inspected the            facilities.

She inaugurated a large private fish feed centre with a production capacity of 100 tonnes per day in village Baikoni in the Simga            development block.

She also met women groups and farmers involved in fisheries, an official               communication said on Wednesday.

The Aqua Genetic Centre is a joint venture of M Hatchery of Raipur and Manit Group of Thailand.

Spread over 100 acres, the centre is engaged in research on genetics of fish as well as production of tilapia fish seed. The farmers will be trained in the latest techniques of fish farming.

She inspected the fish farming done by cage culture method in closed mines by the Kherwari women          self-help group. Twelve cages have been prepared by the group for fish farming.

She also visited a unit in village Pikridih in Raipur district. Farmer Anju Mishra is rearing Tilapia and horn fish.

Dr Suvarna said the state is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana in a better mode. This is the reason the state has won two national awards.
