Private hospitals do not report about diseases

Published on:

The private nursing homes and hospitals do not provide monthly report about patients, diseases etc to the State Health department which is mandatory, according to the Nursing Home Act. It is due to unavailability of details from private hospitals and nursing homes, the number of patients of malaria, dengue and other vector borne diseases is very less in the district.

According to the data available with district malaria office, only four cases of dengue have been reported in the district since January-July. Similarly only 20 cases of malaria have been detected in the district in the same period. The data prepared is from the information received from different Government hospitals and slides prepared by the Malaria department. Except a few private hospitals most of them do not provide the monthly report to the health department.

“The data prepared is mostly of Government hospitals as private hospitals and nursing homes do not provide report regarding different diseases,” said District Malaria Hospital Dr Ashwani Devangan, adding that this was mandatory for private nursing homes and hospitals. The number of patient in Raipur are also less since most of the blocks in the district are urbanised and people go to private hospitals and nursing homes instead of going to primary health centres and community health centres.

Since these private institutions do not provide information to the health department, most of the cases are not reported in the official data.Similar is the condition of other districts of the state as the private nursing homes do not adhere to the norms of the Nursing Home Act.Apart from reporting, most of the private nursing homes and hospitals of the State do not comply with the norms related to safety, fire, biomedical waste disposal, qualified doctors, staff, and minimum space according to number of beds etc. of the Nursing Home Act.
