Prior permission mandatory for using private helipads, airports

Published on:

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has made it mandatory for political parties setting out for poll campaigning to apply to the Chief Election Officer of the State for permission for using  private helipads and airports located in remote regions which are free of government control. The political parties would have to denote the time, place of landing and the number of passengers in their application to the District Magistrate of the region 24 hours prior to landing.

The ECI has also directed that all district magistrates, district electoral officers and returning officers would have to establish a 'Single Window System' for  effective operation of granting permission to various political parties for rallies and gatherings to be organised by them in the State.

If the political parties intend to hold rallies in more than one district then they would have to apply to the in-charges of 'Single Window System' in multiple districts for seeking permission, it stated.
