A delegation of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) on Monday handed over a petition to the Governor addressed to the President seeking an early special assembly session in Rajasthan.
The representation, signed by CPCC President Mohan Markam, MLAs and Congress leaders, condemned the BJP for trying to destabilise the elected government of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan.
The Congress termed the developments in Rajasthan, where the ruling party has split into two factions, as a "murder of democracy and constitutional values."
It pointed out that after Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Manipur and Meghalaya, Rajasthan was being destabilized.
The representation said holding a special assembly session at the earliest in Rajasthan, where the Chief Minister has vowed to prove his majority in the House, would help stem all "undemocratic acts".
Meanwhile, BJP state spokesperson Sanjay Shrivastava denounced the Congress for shedding crocodile tears for democracy while having imposed the most number of President's Rule in states when it was in power.
Shrivastava said it was due to lack of internal democracy within the Congress that such situations had arisen in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan where young Congress leaders have revolted. There is no proof of direct involvement of the BJP or its leaders in any case, he added.
