Pregnant woman loses fetus due to callousness

Due to lack of timely medical assistance, a pregnant woman quarantined in Pandariya block of Chhattisgarh's Kawardha district lost her fetus on Monday.

The woman developed labour pain on Saturday night. People with help of 112 service took her to the Pandariya Community Health Centre where the doctors refused to admit her, citing no order from higher officials for child delivery.

She was referred to the Kawardha District Hospital where too the staff did not attend to her. She was then shifted to the nearest Lohara Naka-based quarantine centre.

On Monday, the matter came to the notice of the District Collector, the Sub Divisional Magistrate and the Chief Medical and Health Officer. She was again admitted to the district hospital but it was too late. Before reaching there, the fetus had died in the womb.

Later, the fetus was removed by operation.

Chief Medical and Health Officer of Kabeerdham Dr Suresh Tiwari said: “Reports of non-admission of the pregnant woman were received. Higher officials had her admitted at the district hospital. The infant died in the womb."

Dr Suresh said the woman's treatment is continuing.

The other day, the Kawardha district administration won kudos when a pregnant woman from a quarantine centre was helped to give normal delivery through timely intervention.
