PWD and Transport Minister Rajesh Munat said that keeping in view the GST system, 16 border check posts of State Transport Department will be shutdown in Chhattisgarh from midnight of Tuesday (July 4).

It is an important step towards making Chhattisgarh a barrier-free State, as per the vision of Chief Minister Raman Singh, he said.

Munat said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has realized the concept of one nation, one tax and on market through GST.

Smooth and obstacle free business and trade is also one of the priority of GST. GST has come into effect in the nation from July 1. In the same sequence, on Chief Minister Raman Singh's directives, Chhattisgarh Government's Transport Department has decided to shutdown border check posts, he said.

The Transport Department Officials appointed in these check posts will be attached to RTO offices after shutdown. The border check posts that are being closed include the ones in Potakohra, Chhota Manpur and Manpur (District- Rajnandgaon), Chilphi (District Kabeerdham), Khamharpali and Baghbahara (District Mahasamund), Kewanchi (District Bilaspur), Dhanwar and Ramanujganj (District - Balrampur), Ghutritola and Chanti (District Koriya), Rengarpali (District Raigarh), Shankh and lavakera check post (District Jashpur), Konta (District Sukma) and Dhanpunji (District - Bastar).

He said that obstacle free goods transportation system is necessary for successful implementation of 'one nation, one tax and one market' vision.

The Chhattisgarh Government had abolished commercial tax check posts from April 1, 2011, in order to make business and trade convenient. Despite that in the year 2011-12, State's commercial tax revenue increased by 25 per cent in year 2011-12 and revenue collection was higher than other States of the nation and GDP growth in later years, he said.

The Minister said that being stopped at the barrier and the entire checking process takes times and delays the arrival of goods transport vehicle at the destination.

Keeping all these aspects in mind, it is necessary to shutdown check posts to facilitate barrier free inter-state transport for implementation of GST system, he said.
