Police have planned to conduct a Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test to determine the biological parents of a baby in the alleged baby swap case in the district Government hospital of Durg.
Police said Raj Kumar, a 30-year-old resident of Baikuntha Nagar area alleged that he admitted his wife Santosh Bai in the maternity ward of the hospital on the morning of November 21 for delivery. About half an hour after her admission, the concerned nurse informed him that his wife gave birth to a girl child but later the same nurse handed over a boy child to the mother. The baby boy died two days later due to some complications.
The couple returned to home next day. However when he verified the records subsequently he spotted a contradiction. While one record showed his wife delivered a baby boy, the record provided to him showed it was girl. Police started investigation after Raj Kumar said another woman gave birth in the same hospital 15 minutes after his wife delivered a baby.
He suspects that the hospital staff may have swapped the babies.
